Solar-Powered Zone Timer
for Scheduled Farm Irrigation

Online Catalog

Our IrriGator timers can be connected to a pump motor or engine, as well as to irrigation valve zone solenoids.Solar power operates the timer and up to 24 irrigation zone solenoids. The included solar panel and can also be connected to a pump engine starting basttery, for trickle-charge.

There are several ways of using the IrriGator timer with a pump:
a. Electric Pumping: For zoned irrigation using an electric motor, it is only necessary to add a motor power contactor (relay) having a 12Vdc actuating coil. This coil is connected to the  PUMP/MV (master valve) terminal on the IrriGator timer.  The pump motor could be any size from 1/100 Hp (for a patio garden drip line) or 1000 Hp (for a farm), and the contactor would be sized accordingly.
b. Engine Pumping: For zoned irrigation setups using a fueled engine, an engine control unit (ECU) must be installed at the engine. Most multi-cylinder engines that are intended for pump application will have an ECU. (An ECU is necessary to monitor oil pressure and engine temperature). The ECU will also have provisions for remote start/stop. (An ECU can be added to any engine). See details below. On the wiring diagram, the terminal block labelled 'Generator' (or pump in this case) would be located on ECU, usually on the back. We add a start/stop relay (or two) in the IrriGator cabinet that is operated by the PUMP/MV (master valve) terminal on the IrriGator timer.

Zone Overlap: In either case, above, the IrriGator timer will keep the external pump  operating during the 10 seconds after one zone valve is closing and the next zone valve is opening. There is a temporary increase in water pressure during this time and for centrifugal or turbine pumps this is actually a reduced load and no problem. If the irrigation pump is a positive displacement (piston, gear, or roller) type, then it is customary to install a standpipe on the main line that will overflow during any over-pressure condition. (A positive-displacement pump would be used in a high-lift application).
