| The trend in pool operation is toward more efficient
filtration, lower pump power consumption, use of solar heating, and tighter
control of pool chemistry. All directed toward energy conservation. Heating. Addition of solar heat collectors is the single most important measure that will reduce heating cost. In the lower latitudes, uncovered polymer/rubber collectors are ideal; they will quickly pay for themselves in terms of reduced energy costs. In higher latitudes, covered collectors are more suitable. Filtration. It is now feasible to operate pool filtration systems on solar energy. Some ideas are presented below. |

Solar Collectors AQUASOL solar collectors for heating pool and spas are made of polypropylene copolymer. UV inhibitors and antioxidants are integrated into the copolymer to make the panels resistant to ultraviolet rays of the sun and to oxidation due to pool chemicals and environmental factors. The panels are installed by use of a set of UVprotected hold-down straps and butterfly brackets. The manifolds or headers are 1.5" I.D., 1.9" O.D. and 51" long. The headers of adjacent panels are joined together using the two 4" EPDNM couplers and four stainless steel bandseal clamps provided in the panel kits. Also included in the panel kits are two butterfly brackets for the hold-down strap and an additional SS clamp with an outlet header bracket. Up to 12 panels may be installed with a single feed and return. A system kit provides the adapters for the feed and return, along with two 7" couplers, a vacuum breaker, an end cap and two butterfly strap holddown brackets and four strap hold down clamps for the hold-down strap. The hold-down strap is sold seperately in 54' & 107' lengths. the 107' is enough for 12 collectors. If the panels are installed in more than one row. then each row would require a system kit. Max fluid pressure 95 psi @ 80F, max operation pressure 35 psi W., 140F. Pressure drop 0.09 - 0.13 PSI within (he flow range. Flow rates: max 10 gpm, ruin 2.5 gpm, recommended 0. 1 gpm/sq. ft of collector area. 10 year limited warranty. Leaky risers may be repaired on site by using special repair plugs which preserve the appearance of the panel. |

Copper Pool & Spa Solar Collectors
| GULL INDUSTRIES Gull 4000 pool collectors are made with 62 mil thick extruded aluminum absorber plate and copper water ways. Eight 1,12" O.D. risers, 5.5" on center, are attached to the 1.5" headers with collared Joints and silver solder. The individual fins are integrated into a single unit through a special interlocking feature for maximum strength and integrity. The absorber finish is velvet black, temperature resistant paint. A special silicon-based, heat transfer compound is used between the copper tubes and the aluminum fins, in order to maximize heat transfer. | Commercial Pool-Spa Control System is designed to control two independent filtration systems for a pool and spa. A large, red mushroom emergency switch (24V and double insulated) included with the system, can cut power to all spa equipment, meeting California commercial codes. Pushing the start button runs the spa jets for 20 to 40 minutes (adjusted by the facility manager). A second push of the button turns the jets off. A built-in timer allows turning the system off during certain hours. For Powering AC Swimming Pool Filtration
Pump
| Swimming pool filtration pumps use a fair amount of electricity to keep your pool clean. Now there is a way to power your filtration pump with electricity from sunshine. In California, and other states, our FiltaSol systems qualify for the state renewables buydown rebates (Calif: $4.50 per Watt if you buy your electricity from PG&E, SEC or SDG&E). These systems make it possible to power your pool filtration pump with electricity generated by Solar PV panels, during still light hours and thereby saving you the cost of electricity normally provided by the utility company. The system consists of solar panels installed on or near your pool equipment shed, and a pool pump inverter that converts the solar power to the AC power required by your existing pool pump. The system includes a bypass switch to allow you to run your pump on utility power, on cloudy days or after sundown, if you wish. In new construction we suggest you find the most efficient pool pump available. Also, if your existing pool pump is old and inefficient, we can suggest a replacement pump and supply it. Depending on the size of your pool and filtration pump, we offer the Filta-Sol in several different sizes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Pool Filtration With DC Pumps
| For remote locations where there
is no utility power available, and there is no need to run the filtration
pump after sundown, we offer another system that utilizes DC pumps,
ranging from 1/2HP to 1 HP. Because the pump
is directly connected to the output of the solar panels, it starts running
shortly after sunrise and continues until shortly before sunset. Naturally
in the summer when the days are longer, the pump runs for more hours per
day and, in the winter, for fewer hours per day. On cloudy and overcast days
the pump runs more slowly, pumping less water through the filter. All this
makes the FiltaSol pool pumping system a natural fit for swimming pool filtration.
Algae growth is accelerated in the summer when the days are longer and the
water is warmer, requiring more filtration capacity. In the winter when the
days are shorter, and the water temperatures are cooler, the algae growth
is retarded and the pool requires less filtration. Most conventional pool
filtration systems have a timer programmed to run the pump for four hours
per day in the summer. Since the FiltaSol system would run the pump six to
ten hours per day in the summer (depending on location), the pump size required
for the filtration of a given size pool may be reduced by 40 to 60 percent.
On the other hand the fixed solar array produces variable power from sun
up to sun down, with the maximum power produced at noon. The pump therefore
runs at lower speeds, pumping less gallons per minute but for longer hours
per day, effectively accomplishing the same amount of filtration. Our tests show that cartridge filters are most suitable for use with the solar powered pumps, somewhat oversized sand filters do well also, but the diatomatious earth (DE) filters are least suitable because they produce greater pressure drops, requiring larger pumps. The prices below include the DC pumps also. Allow 3 weeks for delivery of DC pump from factory. |
